The CLL Collective
We work within collectives of scholars and practitioners, community organizers and leaders, families, and youth. Our core team members represent the fields of Language Teaching, Speech-Language Therapy, and Educational Administration and Leadership, as well as a variety of institutions in New York. We seek to engage teachers and community members in work that invites the conversation across boundaries previously set by standardized beliefs about languages.

FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR
Dr. María Rosa Brea-Spahn (ella/she/her) holds a Ph.D. in Psychology with a minor in Language Science and a Master’s in Science in Speech-Language Therapy. Maria Rosa is a bilingual immigrant, a mother and partner, a critical teacher-scholar-learner. Her community collaborations with minoritized families and children who, like her, immigrated to the US, shape-shifted and had their tongues “tamed” by the system have primarily focused on decentering English, reclaiming all languaging as valid and necessary, and co-envisioning a path for linguistic liberation, all purposes and dispositions she also brings to the CLL.
